Course of the Week- B.Sc. Nursing

The program is designed to prepare a nurse who will have professional competence, the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to function effectively. The program will provide holistic training in nursing practice, administration, education, research and leadership and the graduate will be expected to demonstrate leadership traits.

For direct entry, the minimum entry requirements are mean grade of C+ in KCSE and the following minimum grades in respective subjects:

English /Kiswahili C+

Mathematics/Physics C+

Chemistry C+

Biology C+

OR

Two (2) or more Principle passes, with one in Biology and one in Chemistry at KACE, or equivalent qualifications accepted by the University Senate

This is done on a full time basis and takes four (4) academic years to complete.

 

To qualify for entry in upgrading module, the minimum entry requirements are:

KCSE with C (plain) mean grade, plus a Diploma in Nursing from an institution recognized by the University Senate.

OR

KCE/EACE Division 2 (Two).

OR

K.A.C.E; with Principle passes in Biology and Chemistry.

In addition, applicants should have at least two (2) years working experience after attainment of the Diploma in Nursing, and must be registered with Nursing Council of Kenya and with a current practice certificate.

This takes two and a half (2.5) years to complete on a part time basis.

B.Sc. Nursing is offered under our College of Health Sciences (COHES) under the School of Nursing.

Training of nurses is unique in many ways. Apart from classroom training and laboratory practicals, there is supervised clinical learning which helps the learners to integrate theory with clinical practice
