Course of the Week- B.Sc Statistics
Statistics is a discipline that is fundamental in decision making and policy formulation. The program focuses on statistical science and its application to real problems. Statistical techniques and methodologies including collecting, comparison and designing of experiments, analysis of data handled. Statistical packages are used to reinforce students theoretical and practical skills.
The program is offered under the College of Pure and Applied Sciences‘ (COPAS) Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science.
Minimum Entry Requirements:
- KCSE with mean aggregate of C+ (plus) and at least a C+ (plus) in both Mathematics and English/Swahili and any group 3 subject (History/Geography/CRE).
A credit pass in the JKUAT bridging certificate may replace KCSE Mathematics.
- Have a minimum of 2 principal passes in Science subjects, one of which should be Mathematics, in General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level/ Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE).
OR
Have a minimum of principal passes in Science subjects , one of which should be Mathematics in General certificate of education (GCE) Advanced Level/Kenya Certificate of Education (KACE)
Students who hold any of the qualifications above may at the discretion of the Faculty of Science be admitted directly to the second year of the course in which case they may complete their course in a minimum of three academic years.
- Have a diploma in Mathematics or Statistics and with at least a credit pass from an institution recognized by the University Senate.
- Have A diploma in Applied sciences, in which there has been a substantial mathematics with at least credit pass in relevant subjects from an institution recognized by the University Senate.
- Have A diploma in Applied sciences, in which there has been a substantial mathematics with at least credit pass in relevant subjects from an institution recognized by the University Senate.
Students who hold the qualification above may at the discretion of the Faculty of Science be admitted directly to the third year of the course in which case they may complete their courses in a minimum of two academic years and a maximum of four academic years
Duration: The program takes a total of eight (8) semesters with two (2) semesters planned per academic year.
Mode of Study: This is a full time program at JKUAT and is conducted during normal semester time.
