JKUSA Award Winners 2017/2018 Feted

In his infinite wisdom, Dalai Lama is credited for opining, “The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness.” On the Friday night of  12th January, the JKUAT students’ efforts in different categories and areas were culminated in the JKUSA Awards 2017/2018. Awarding various remarkable personalities and organizations within the University throughout the year, the award ceremony, which involved online voting, saw more than 35 individuals and groups honored. The broad categories included Clubs and Societies, Politics and Leadership, Satellite Campus Awards, Fashion and Modelling, Sports Awards, Entertainment Awards, Social Media Awards, and Academic Awards.

In attendance were event sponsors Safarciom,Women in Business (WIB), Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry,Digital Creative and Boma Events.Notable guests in attendance were Mary Muthoni,Chairperson Women in Business (WIB) and Mr.Raymond Ochieng, CEO National Youth Council.

The event kicked off at around 7pm with MC Mannuh ushering in attendees to the occasion with a series of humorous sentiments with the help of King Archie. Deejay Bra was tasked with intoxicating the frenzy crowd with a constant flow of music from all walks of genres. The crowd would also enjoy electric performances from notable local talents, with E-warriors dance crew curtain raising the stage with crazy dance moves, followed by rap gang called Star Born who equally did not disappoint.Up next was the sassy Mckena and Antyvirus with a romantic love song, then came Xander Z with his sick track “Salaam Aleikum.” Kace Blu and Subu in collaboration with Denver Cockey thrilled the crowd with the Nengua track before Denver Cockey himself wrapped up the local talents category with two electrifying tracks,”Hookah” and the famous “Mtoto”.

He curtain raised the stage for the guest artist of the day, Kristoff alias Mluhya wa Busia.

A total of 37 awards were given out,with the first award going to Marystella Natasha for blogger of the year. In the fashion category, Amin Alli Tiffow won the Male Designer of the year while the female designer of the year went to Achieng’ Anode. In the entertainment sector, Denver Cockey retained his male artist of the year award, and so did DJ Bra who scooped the DJ of the year award. Female artist of the year went to Mercy Kasiva while the MC of the year went to Victor Mboya. E-warriors also won the group dance of the year award while music group of the year award was went to The Journey Band. Event of the year went to the sensational 2017 Fresher’s Bash while Igiza arts summed up the entertainment field by scooping the theater group of the year award.

In matters academics, Mary Muthoni scooped the female class rep award while Collins Omosa bagged the male class rep award. School of Entrepreneurship and Project Management bagged the School of the Year award.

In the Sports category, Lysette Florence (female Messi) won the female sports personality of the year award and Byron Kisia won the male category. Basketball male and female teams won sports teams of the year awards respectively.

The defining moment in the category award was the presidential-like escort given to Reggina Bossie and Brandon Bosire(Bombe) who both won the female and male most influential student of the year awards respectively. Other notable awards were:Male social media personality award for the vocal Brian Bruce, female social media personality for Mercy Mwongeli, Oliver Mang’ula(Oliver Twist) for photographer of the year, Noel Kirui for male model of the year award and Akinyi Clara who bagged the female model of the year.

The awarding ceremony was finally closed by a performance from Denver cockey before Kristoff put the icing on the cake with a jaw-dropping performance.
